Reading Food Labels Correctly

Nobody expects you to know your precise food intake. But by reading labels, you can get a good idea about the food that you eat. This can help you eat proper portions, and give you an edge to better dieting.

One surprising thing that people should be aware of is the size of a serving. Most people know that companies display the nutrition facts on the back off packages, and describe the calorie count, and other such items of information with the measurement of a serving size. What is surprising is the size of a serving. We may think that we are only eating one serving, only to find out that what we typically eat is consider two or three servings.

You have probably seen scales or programs that will measure out your food for you.

This isn’t necessary… It is very easy to learn how to measure the correct amount of food yourself. The information is there for you. When you are shopping if you know how to read the food labels you can make a decision about products based on their serving size, and calorie count. Food labels will also give you information on fat content, sodium, and cholesterol.

But these numbers may not be easy to decipher. Often they give the information on the basis of a percentage, which may confuse many people. The first thing you need to know is the serving size. The serving size is the amount of food that is suggested to be consumed in one sitting. Food companies claim that this amount reflects the amount the average consumer consumes, but these numbers are often very low.

This can make things confusing. If the package tells you the calorie count for one serving, you know that you have consumed x amount of calories per serving. But we hardly ever eat one serving. So we have to figure out how many calories we ate. If we ate 4 servings, then we have to multiply the calorie count by four to get our total calorie intake. With the belly fat, many people do prefer CoolSculpting for thighs treatment. The excessive fat of the body will be reduced through them.

Another confusing thing about food labels is that they are based on a 25, 0000 calorie diet. This again, is the average amount of calories consumed by a person a day. You may find yourself above or below this number. Try to figure out where you stand in relation to the typical 25,000 calorie diet.

When food labels talk about a percent of a daily value, they mean the percent of the 25,000 calorie diet that the item accounts for. But calories are not our only worry. When reading labels we should be aware of the ingredients. This can help us stay clear from allergic reactions, and also avoid unwanted ingredients.

You should also know that when a food items claims something like sodium free, it does not mean that the item is sodium free. Sodium free means that it contains less then 5 milligrams per serving. So be careful when choosing foods. They do not always claim the absolute truth. Reading labels may be tedious at first. But once you get the hang of it, it will become faster, and easier.

Wristwatch Review: Men’s Elgin Men’s Watch with Multifunction Dials

In late 2011, I found an interesting watch at Sears. It was a new Elgin. It appeared to be an automatic watch with a beautiful, elegant, masculine old world look. The perfectly proportioned 45 millimeter case has the rich look of rose gold or polished bronze. This watch looks like something Captain Nemo would wear. It reminds me of a ships portal or a vintage deep sea diver’s helmet. On the right side of the dial, the face of this watch has a 15mm subdial for the hours and minutes. On the left side of the dial, an 8 millimeter subdial with a tiny second hand sits on a raised platform within a larger window that reveals elements of a mechanical movement. The watch looked just right for the office so I bought it. Since the sales clerk said the watch was an automatic, I passed on a service plan because she said it would never need batteries.

I was excited to wear my new Elgin watch. It was my first watch with an exhibition caseback. I eagerly watched the rotor spin and wondered how long the watch would run. But, soon the strange and mysterious behavior began. If I was working quietly at my desk without moving, I noticed that the Elgin’s second hand would stop after awhile. Yet, mysteriously the watch still kept accurate hours and minutes. I thought this must be a sophisticated mechanism to conserve energy during periods of inactivity. Since the watch had no accompanying literature or instruction manual, I was simply mystified.

I wore the watch all the time for a couple of weeks before laying it aside for others in my collection. Amazingly, the watch didn’t ever stop running. I’d come back four days later and find that the watch was still keeping accurate time. At first, I chalked it up to the watch having an amazing power reserve. Then I realized that my Elgin was running for longer than the finest Swiss watches in the world. I started asking around on watch boards like My Wristwatch Forum. There I found out some news: this beautiful Elgin Watch isn’t an automatic. It’s a quartz watch powered by batteries. Only the second hand is driven by the rotor and mechanical mechanism. For a long time, I didn’t fully believe it. The watch really looks like a fine automatic. But, I read on Sears.com that the watch has a quartz movement.

At first, I was dismayed by the discovery that this watch isn’t what I originally thought. It reflects poorly on MZ Berger, Sears, and the Sears sales force. However, the watch remains one of the coolest looking timepieces in my collection. It sells for just $52.00 on Sears.com and is worth every penny. But, from now on, I’ll make sure I ready up on any watch I buy just to make sure that I know exactly what I’m getting. The individuals who are fond of watches the olivia burton watches would be an ideal choice for them as this brand is evolving  a beyond expectation.

Online Insurance Agency: How To Begin?

In the old times, when it came to living a peaceful life, it wasn’t so difficult as opportunities were more and problems were very few to deal with. You would find few examples of lack of jobs, attempts to suicide by youngsters, no pressure from parents, lots of friends to rely upon and many more.

You could take care of your needs and fulfill the demands of the family at the same time and save a considerable amount in your bank account for future needs without relying on friends and relatives.

Its true that tension and stress existed even then, but the situation was under control then and not spiraled out of hand as it has today with people giving up all hope and losing interest in life and taking extreme steps at the most innocuous of reasons.

By the time children reach adolescence, they are extremely excited about life’s prospects and looking out for something big, but the harsh realities bring them back to the ground and dash all their hopes in the worst possible way.

After years of constant, fruitless struggle, their faith and confidence have wavered to the point the time and destiny start using fear against them as a motivator to keep going but with fewer places to go and even fewer people to turn for help.

When job and business seem impossible prospects, what do they do now? They chance upon a hope after listening to advice and sermons from here and there and that is to turn towards the field of insurance.

An insurance is regarded as a ray of hope that helps you to keep your future secure by solving your financial problems and maintains your dignity and integrity by preventing you to beg from others at any point of time.

So for this very reason, many individuals get the required motivation to open up their own insurance agencies right from the start.

Here are some necessary steps on how to do so:

  1. A sufficient capital: The most important step here is to have the required funds to start up any new venture for which you would find the need to start saving quite early on and let go of frugal and futile expenses, not to mention certain compromises and sacrifices.
  1. Location: The next step is to search for the required piece of land that you would need to decide upon the location of the agency as you cannot just build any structure at any location of your preference. Also the required equipments, rental charges, license costs have also to be looked into.
  1. Planning: This is where you have to decide everything in advance on what to do and how to do which involves a great deal of creativity and innovation on your part.

  1. The Legal Structure: It is when you decide whether you want to set up the company on a solo basis or in partnership with two or more entities. Both have their own problems. When going solo, it is you who will be solely responsible for any losses while in partnership, there will be numerous disagreements in decision matters and lead to animosity.
  1. Registered Name: As per https://laplayainsurance.com, you would need to find a unique name that is not used by other rival companies in order to avoid confusion and have everything patented so that it does not get misused.

Back Pain: Causes, Treatments and Prevention Tips

Back pain is the second most common reason people see a doctor for pain. Those at risk for back pain are those who sit for long periods of time, are overweight, lack overall fitness, bend or lift a lot, and just the normal aging process. Of course there is the back pain associated with over doing activities like sports, or events like moving day.

Most of us suffer from back pain from time to time. Those who experience back pain for longer than 3 months are considered chronic back pain sufferers and should be under the care of a physician.

Those who are overweight can experience back pain due to the strain the extra weight up front puts on the back muscles. Pregnancy can also cause back pain because of the added pregnancy weight. No matter what the reason for your back pain, there are ways to bring relief. There are also things we can do to prevent back pain in the future.

SOME PHYSICAL CAUSES OF BACK PAIN:

TREATMENT FOR BACK PAIN

Usually back pain will go away on it’s own, but there are things you can do to alleviate your pain. You can use medications such as anti-inflammatory medications or muscle relaxants. You can also apply an ice pack covered with a light cloth for back spasms. A light massage helps to relieve spasms too. A hot bath or a whirlpool is good for stiffness in the back. Back pain that is really bad requires a physician, as steroid shots may be necessary. A very last resort should be the consideration of surgery.

Bed rest is usually not recommended for back pain, as being inactive can actually cause back pain to worsen or stiffness may occur. It is actually beneficial to do light activity to keep muscles warm. Do not do heavy lifting, bending, twisting or stooping until your back pain has stopped. When you are sitting, remember to take frequent breaks to stand or walk around. Sit with your head and shoulders erect and use supports like pillows for your back. You can also roll-up a towel and place at the small of your back to help relieve tired back muscles.

WHEN TO SEE A PHYSICIAN

You should seek medical advice if your back pain or inflammation lasts longer than 72 hours.

If you are unable to move or stand upright, you should see your physician.

If you experience any bleeding from the rectum while experiencing back pain or painful urination you should also seek a physician’s care as these additional symptoms may be signs of infection or other diseases.

Keep these prevention tips in mind and your future will contain less pain. Being smart about back pain will save you a lot of aggrevation and painful moments.

Great Tips for Networking Your Small Business

I opened the doors to my small business, Centra Chiropractic, in February 2007. Those first few months in business were excited and stressful all at the same time. How wonderful to have a new business to call my own, but all of the needs for marketing, paperwork, tax filing, etc. was quite overwhelming. Many individuals think that all they have to do to get business is to “hang their shingle.” Believe it or not, people do not just come flocking to your business when you open the doors – network marketing must take place. You get the best crm software for scaling your business as you click here. You get tips with which you can improve the networking of your business easily and quickly.

Here is how I started out marketing for less than $1000:

Find local leads groups – Many small business owners like to link up to large leads groups such as BNI, Le Tip, or ONE leads group, but these leads groups have an expensive annual membership fee and then usually meet an an expensive restaurant for lunch with a mandatory rule to purchase a meal. The money adds up. Moreover, these groups obligate you to refer. I did not feel comfortable with obligated referrals because I wanted to refer to other businesses because I felt good about them – integrity, ethics, good business practices, etc. So, I found local leads groups. This can be done through craigslist.com, meetup.com, or by starting at the local Chamber of Commerce. Before long, I was a member of over 5 leads groups and had many of my early mornings and afternoons filled up with meeting people. At the leads groups, be sure to talk with others and ask them about themselves; others love to talk about themselves. Soon, they will ask you a lot of questions because they are comfortable with you. Always be sure to have an adequate supply of business cards. If you cannot find a leads group that suits you, organize your own!

Arrange speaking engagements. There are many organizations and groups that are looking for speakers – possibly about your expertise. Call local businesses and clubs to arrange some presentation opportunites. Also, do not forget the local library! When speaking, you have future clients undivided attention for about 15-30 minutes. Be sure to keep it brief and give them something to take home with them – a business card, a brochure, a sample, etc.

Invite professionals / friends/ current clients to lunch or “coffee”. This method of marketing is very inexpensive. A cup of coffee or hot chocolate costs between $1.50 – $3.50. People are more than willing to meet with you when you invite them to “schmooze” with you. Keep conversation light and ask them about their family, career, and interests. Then, tell them about your business and let them know who you are and what you do. Tell them how they can refer people to you.

Give referrals. When you give referrals, the other business that receives the referral will look you up and will be interested in “returning the favor”. You can even give referrals to similar businesses or “competitors”. Each business is different and you may be able to set up a symbiotic relationship.

Know who you are. That sounds funny, but do you know who you are? What makes you so special that people would want to do business with you? Can you effectively explain who you are in less than 30 seconds? Know who you are – your philosophy, your ethics, and your mission. Be sure to exude that to each individual that you meet. Most importantly, be yourself!

Be patient. Building a business takes time. Be sure to retain the customers that you receive and then watch your business grow through the best source of network marketing – “Word of mouth!”

Now, even during times of economic downturn, we are grateful that our business continues to grow. Most of our marketing now comes through “word of mouth.” Leave a huge impression on your clients and they will talk about you for a long time. Their referrals are the best referrals because people seek you out specifically for your service or product that you provide, and it cost you nothing!

Plastic Surgery: Why Are Americans so Eager to Change Their Appearances?

Cosmetic surgeons know if you seek to change your life, your love life or your career with plastic surgery, you need more emotional adjustments than physical. But if you’re looking to change your appearance to please yourself, feel confident or to turn back the clock a little, cosmetic surgery may be for you, according to the surgeons I interviewed recently.

Cosmetic procedures, surgical and non-surgical are more popular and socially acceptable. In a recent study by the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, a year saw 7.4 million Americans, 6.3 million women, alter their appearance medically. Noses, the most frequent target, are 76% of the procedures. Then comes liposuction, eyelid lifting, female breast augmentation and facelifts.

Surprisingly, the same study said 20,000 men had breast reduction surgery – up 84% in eight years. About 44% of patients are 30 to 50 year-olds. A third are repeat customers. In our 20’s we have noses done. Thirty to 40 year-olds choose liposuction, 50-60 year-olds seek eyelid surgery most often. Nearly 450,000 people over age 65 elected to have a cosmetic procedure performed. With more teens asking for change, adults coming in droves, and baby boomers turning fifty at one every seven seconds, plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery find their calendars bulging.

In that American Association of Plastic Surgeons study (2000), surgeries were up by 198% over eight years. More women, 476% more, chose breast augmentation. Most popular among women are breasts, liposuction and face lifts. Men change their eyes and/or noses, and have hair replacement or breast reduction most often.

Cosmetic and reconstructive surgery are not interchangeable terms. Cosmetic surgery refers to reshaping normal structures to improve appearance and self-esteem. Reconstructive surgery is performed to correct abnormalities. Insurance carriers cover reconstructive procedures for functional restoration, but usually not cosmetic changes.

What’s out there? ASPS, on their website, describes these:

Absominoplasty or tummy tuck. Major surgery to flatten abdomen by removing excess skin/fat. Breast augmentation. Balances size of breasts or improves body contour with inserts. Breast reduction. Removes tissue to make breasts smaller. Chemical peel. Non-surgical. Corrects wrinkled or blemished skin. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Removes fat/skin from eyelids to correct droop or puffiness. Facelifts. Reduce facial creases, jawline slackness and fat around neck. Hair replacement. Existing hair used to fill baldness over several sessions. Candidates must have some healthy hair growth. Laser skin resurfacing. Enhances appearance of healthy skin but won’t completely remove large flaws or reverse aging. Liposuction. Removes fat deposits at face, abdomen, buttocks, or thighs. Requires that patient control weight after surgery. Nose surgery (rhinoplasty). Enhances appearance, offers improvement, but seldom perfection. Dr. Bradford Roberg, M.D., specializing in cosmetic surgery with Northern Illinois Plastic Surgery Center told me cosmetic surgery’s goal is to make reasonable changes. A subtle change can profoundly impact self-esteem.
“Miracles don’t happen – even significant changes don’t make miracles,” says Roberg. “Remember, results are mostly permanent.”

When a surgeon alters the structure of the nose or face, it’s permanent. You’ll age, but you’ll look proportionately better, say experts, for the rest of your life. Liposuction is permanent if you maintain weight, and rejuvenation can last variable lengths of time.

Roberg says, “We can turn back the clock but can’t stop it.”

Understanding that many of these procedures are permanent, some are major surgery and many are invasive, means you have to make an educated choice, have the right motivation and choose your doctor very carefully.

Small Business Mistakes that Could Prove Fatal for Its Success

Owning and running a small business is no walk in the park. Between the customers service, providing value in products/services and keeping up with the daily task of running a business it’s easy to overlook many small details. The problem: many of these small details can be fatal.

Not having a website

It’s vital that every small business has a website today. More and more people go online to research and buy products you may be offering. Instead of letting these customers go to your competitors, get online now. You should also be able to use sales software to easily track your sales cycle. Sales lead tracking software tracks online sales.

Not using phones

Some people just want to order by phone. We’re all busy as consumers to swinging by the store or going online can be a hassle. Always leave the opportunity open to place an order by phone.

Not building repeat customers

A new customer comes in, you make the sale and then nothing happens afterward. Customer costs are expensive every time you bring a new one in. Instead of spending a ton of money trying to bring in new customers seek out the ones that have already bought and keep them in the sales funnel.

Not offering tech support

Just because you completely understand how your products and services work doesn’t mean your customers do. When a problem arises, leave the opportunity to contact your business for tech support open. Just a simple tech support call can make or break a good customer experience.

Using business jargon

Each business has its own form of jargon wording. When your customer reads your literature they don’t care about what the industry calls it, they want to have it speak to them. Avoid using business jargon by using words that you’d actually say as part of a casual conversation.

Offering unreliable shipping

Nothing causes more conflict than a faulty shipping experience. Packages are delivered late, damage or worse, not even get there. When this happens the customer immediately associates your business with a bad experience. Always push for shipping that’s not only reliable but is guaranteed to be there on time.

Hiring the wrong people

As a small business owner it’s difficult to gauge people that will fit neatly within your business. On paper your employees may be amazing but when working they could be falling short. Build a small business where every employee syncs with one another, understands the business culture and displays this when interacting with customers.

Conclusion

It’s easy to overlook these seven fatal small business mistakes with so much on your plate. Although they seem small in comparison to the big picture, these several items make up the pillars of a successful small business – don’t make the mistake of overlooking them.

Handling Grandparents that Play Favorites

Grandparents playing favorites is an especially hard pill to swallow for parents. The situation is especially hard when it’s your own parents that are committing the offense. As children, bonded by trust, we were guided through life by our parents; but as parents ourselves, it is our responsibility to protect our children from harm even if the person harming your child is the same people that made you the person that you are.

Children are highly perceptive. When a child recognizes that their grandparents have a favorite sibling, there can be a sense of rejection and diminished self-worth for the child. You may first try to talk to the grandparents explaining to them that they can have a favorite, but they may not demonstrate favoritism in front of your children. Remember, you can’t change how people feel, you can only control much you will allow it to affect your children. Some parents choose to deny the grandparent’s access to all of the children if they can’t treat them all equally although, in the eyes of the favorite, this is equally unfair.

Your children’s exposure to the grandparent’s behavior can be kept to a minimum by allowing the grandparents to take the favorite grandchild away from the other sibling(s). Should you allow the favorite child to continue reaping the benefits of their grandparents playing favorites, you should arrange for fun things to do with the other sibling(s) while the favorite is off visiting the grandparents. The grandparents may find that the favorite grandchild will choose to play favorites of their own by wanting to spend time with their parents and other sibling(s), rather than their grandparents. Life often rewards bad behavior in this way.

When the children are old enough, you should explain that you can love someone and not agree with what they are doing because just like kids, adults make mistakes. Just so your children know that your feelings for all them are equal and in order to minimize the damages, you should try to stress that all children are special and unique in their own right. You can also try to create sensory gym for them. Sensory gym is great for children with a lot of energy.Explaining that, as parents, when you have a girl and a boy, you have a favorite girl and a favorite boy.

If you have two boys and two girls, then you have a favorite eldest boy and a favorite baby boy, the same for the girls. You may also relate it to talents, like a favorite soccer ball player or favorite fashion diva.

With the divorce rate such as it is, many children do not have the same grandparents by blood. This can present special problems in curbing favoritism by grandparents and even more complicated is the question of what to do when there is a vast difference in the financial circumstances of the grandparents and their ability to spoil their grandchildren. As the parents, you should discuss your concerns and take a unified stand about how these matters can be handled fairly for all of your children.

It may also be necessary, or even easier, on everyone concerned to seek help outside of the family through family counseling services. Some people are just oblivious to the emotional strain that they are causing to all members of their family through their actions and while the child may not be the grandparent’s favorite, they probably don’t intend to do harm. Oftentimes a third party can make all the difference because they are able to offer objective advice and they are trained to guide family members into changing their own behavior.
